A calm, clear place to ask every question.

Many men feel nervous before their first consultation. That is completely normal. We talk you through the process properly so you understand what a hair system is, what it feels like, how it is maintained and whether it is right for you.

1

What is a hair system?

A modern hair system is a non-surgical hairpiece designed to blend with your own hair. It can be made from human hair or high-quality synthetic hair and is attached using specialist tape or adhesive.

2

Will it look natural?

The natural look comes from choosing the right colour, density, hairline, base type and cut. The aim is not to look overdone — it is to look believable, age-appropriate and comfortable.

3

Is there pressure to go ahead?

No. Your consultation is about information first. We explain the pros, cons, costs, maintenance and alternatives so you can decide without embarrassment or pressure.

Hair systems vs medication vs hair transplants.

There is no single answer for every man. The right choice depends on your hair loss, health, budget, lifestyle and how quickly you want to see a visible change.

Medication

Medical treatment route

Pros

  • Finasteride and minoxidil are recognised treatments for male pattern hair loss.
  • May help slow hair loss or support regrowth for some men.
  • Often considered earlier in the hair-loss journey.

Points to consider

  • Does not work for everyone and usually requires ongoing use.
  • Visible benefit can take months, not days.
  • Side effects are possible; speak to a qualified medical professional.

Hair Transplant

Surgical option

Pros

  • Uses your own hair follicles and may give long-term improvement for suitable candidates.
  • Can be a good option for some men with stable hereditary hair loss.
  • No hairpiece maintenance once the final result is established.

Points to consider

  • It is surgery, with recovery time and possible complications.
  • Results take months and cost varies widely.
  • It may not be suitable for every type or stage of hair loss.

Medication note: The NHS says finasteride and minoxidil are the main treatments for male pattern baldness, but they do not work for everyone and only work for as long as they are used.

Transplant note: The NHS advises checking that a cosmetic surgery clinic in England is registered with the CQC, and that the surgeon is qualified and experienced.

A hair system is not one appointment — it is a routine.

Most clients return every 3 to 5 weeks for maintenance, depending on their scalp, adhesive, system type, lifestyle and how quickly their natural hair grows. We will never push unnecessary appointments; we will advise what genuinely suits your system.

Why maintenance matters: regular refits help keep the system secure, hygienic, comfortable and properly blended with your own hair.

1

Remove safely

The system is removed carefully to protect the scalp and the base.

2

Clean scalp and system

Adhesive residue is cleaned away and the scalp is checked before refitting.

3

Re-bond and reattach

Tape or adhesive is reapplied so the system sits securely and comfortably.

4

Cut, blend and style

Your natural hair is cut and blended with the system for a fresh, natural finish.

Non-surgical, but still needs proper care.

A hair system is a cosmetic, non-surgical option. It avoids surgery and medication, but the scalp still needs to be treated sensibly and hygienically.

Before fitting

Tell us about sensitive skin, allergies, sweating, irritation, skin conditions or previous adhesive problems. We will not knowingly apply adhesive to broken, infected or badly irritated skin.

Scalp hygiene

Regular cleaning and correct removal help reduce residue build-up and irritation. Maintenance appointments are important for comfort as well as appearance.

Medical concerns

Seek medical advice if you have sudden hair loss, scalp pain, infection, open wounds, severe irritation or any unexplained symptoms. We do not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication.

Base type, density and grey percentage matter.

The smallest details can make the biggest difference. A believable system should suit your age, facial features, natural hair, lifestyle and preferred style.

Base Types

  • Lace: breathable and natural-looking, especially around the hairline.
  • Skin / poly: clean scalp-like appearance and can suit sharper styles.
  • Hybrid: combines materials for a balance of realism, comfort and durability.

Density Guide

  • 70–80%: lighter density for a softer, more mature look.
  • 90–100%: natural everyday density and a common choice.
  • 110%: fuller density for thicker styles when appropriate.

Grey Percentage

  • 0%: no grey.
  • 10–20%: subtle grey for a natural mature blend.
  • 30–40%: salt-and-pepper appearance.
  • 50%+: stronger grey blend where suitable.

Real feedback from hair system clients.

Honest words from clients who have experienced the fitting, blending and confidence change first-hand.

★★★★★

I’ve been wearing a hair system for a few years now, so I know how important it is to get the cut-in and blend right. Before, I struggled to find someone who could actually match the system properly with my own hair. I was paying over the top prices and still never fully happy with the result.

Then I found Mario at Mr Scissor Hands, and the difference was immediate. The way he cut in and blended the system is honestly the best I’ve had — completely natural, undetectable, and styled exactly how I wanted. It doesn’t look or feel like a “system” at all, it just looks like my hair again.

On top of that, the service is straightforward, honest, and a lot more reasonably priced than what I’d been paying before. I only wish I had found him sooner — it would have saved me a lot of money and frustration.

Client, North West London
★★★★★

I couldn’t be happier I decided to try a hair system — it’s transformed how I look, and the reaction I’ve had has so far been unanimously positive. Gee and Mario have been wonderful throughout. They’re clearly experts at what they do: considerate, reassuring, and great company! They’ve been so responsive answering every question I had.

No more worrying about how my hairline looks or gusts of wind. I only regret I didn’t do this sooner!

Questions clients often ask.

Here are straightforward answers for first-time wearers and anyone comparing their options.

Yes. We operate from a private area within Mr Scissor Hands, and your appointment is handled with care, respect and discretion.
The in-person consultation is £15. It is redeemable against your first service if you decide to go ahead.
No. Please note that we do not currently take card payments.
No. A hair system is a non-surgical, removable cosmetic solution. It is attached with specialist tape or adhesive and maintained regularly.
Most clients come in every 3 to 5 weeks. The right schedule depends on your system, scalp, adhesive, lifestyle and natural hair growth.
Many wearers do normal daily activities with a fitted system, but your routine, adhesive, scalp and maintenance habits matter. We will explain aftercare clearly at your appointment.
Not for everyone — it is different. Medication may help some men slow hair loss, but it takes time, requires ongoing use and can have side effects. A hair system gives an immediate cosmetic result without taking hair-loss medication.
Again, it depends. A hair system is non-surgical, immediate and reversible. A transplant is surgery, costs more upfront, takes months to show and may not suit every type of hair loss.
If you already have one, bring it along. If you do not, we can advise on colour, density, base type and what would look natural for you.
